Doing an internship in Argentina is probably one of the best ways students will find to truly learn about the spirit of tango and improve their skills in the professional field as well.

Travelling abroad is a unique opportunity to come across impressive features that make each country shine in the international field. In this way, Argentina has become worldwide recognized for its passion for tango and as the birth place of this dance.
If your career develops in the artistic field, then doing an internship in Argentina will be a perfect choice to open your mind and get immersed into a culture that has a vast and deep rooted tradition that nowadays has as a prime exponent the tango dance.

The real origin of tango is blurred, as it usually happens with all things that are continuously transformed along history. By doing an internship in Argentina you will learn that the word tango was firstly used to describe the typical dance of black people in America. The meaning and the dance itself later on evolved incessantly and after one hundred years it defined and got to be known as an Argentinean dance in all terms.

          ]]>

As you do your internship program in Argentina you can practice tango in all the different academies spread along the country. Buenos Aires and Cordoba are the most important destinations that in Argentina where you can easily do your internship and perfect your dancing skills in a fast manner.

Anyway, if you don’t take tango lessons nor do your internship in a dancing school you will feel the spirit of this music in the everyday life of the Argentinean people. In Buenos Aires mainly, you can appreciate professional tango dances for free on every corner of downtown. As you do your internship on any subject, you can easily go around neighbourhoods that entirely resemble the soul of tango, like La Boca neighbourhood in Buenos Aires.

If you are in the mood for learning a little bit more about tango before doing your internship in Argentina, discover that there is much more to see than one sole style. Tango has incredibly developed into more sophisticated movements that reflect the influence of famous dancers through time. While doing your internship in Argentina you will encounter Canyengue Tango, Orillero, Milonguero and of course, Saloon and Show Tango. Each style has its own relevance in the history of the Argentinean dance and will introduce you in a particular way of looking at the tradition of country as you do your internship abroad.

Besides, it is important for you to know that tango originated in the suburbs of the city of Buenos Aires and was respectfully seen by the society in general. Later on, it grew in importance and got into the core of the city and the society in general. During your internship in Argentina you will find out in tango the essence of all social stratums.

Travelling abroad is a lifetime opportunity to gain a deep insight into different cultures. Argentina is by far an enigmatic and beautiful country that has become a widely chosen destination among students. If you are willing to do an internship abroad in the artistic field, then Argentina should be your pick. You will not only encounter tango, but also many other artistic expressions that are yet to gain international popularity.

by Dr. Jeffrey Lant

Author’s Note: To get the most out of this article, go to any search engine. Search for arguably the most popular tango ever written, “La cumparsita” (1916) by Uruguayan musician Gerardo Matos Rodriguez. You will be in the mood at once, right from its famous opening lyric, “The masked parade of endless miseries….”

A dance for men and women.

When a boy insists upon dressing up in coat and tie to dance with a girl, his girl by holding her firmly and gazing intensely into her eyes. When he is ready to lead, to command, he is no longer a boy but a man, and he’s ready for tango.

When a girl insists upon wearing a provocative dress that’s starkly cut and skin tight, slashed to her waist. When she wants to be held by a man, her man and relish the power of submission, she is no longer a girl but a woman, and she’s ready for tango. . This is an article for adult men and women. No “hanging out”, texting adolescents with wild gyrations need apply. What follows here is not for you…. yet. When you read it you will want to grow up too fast and grasp your fate, whatever it is. That is your first sharp longing for tango. There will be many others, right up to the last day you tango which will be the last day of your life.

The waltz is a dance… the fox trot is a dance… the samba is a dance. But tango is destiny; your most intimate, revealing, convulsive feelings set to a music that seizes you and never lets you go.

Call tango a dance at your peril, for it is so much more. It is the most important moment in the lives of those who walk its steps, expecting to reveal nothing to their partner, then swept away unaccountably revealing everything, however abashing, destructive.

Tango is life itself. It is never just about its various positions; those are the least important things. Tango is about passion… power… the control of a woman by a man who discovers too late that woman controls him.

Tango is endless variations and manifestations of jealousy, betrayal, revenge. And always variations of love, in all its aspects, from its soaring prospects to its squalid conclusions. Tango, you see, is not danced; it is lived. And when you are dancing it… you are, perhaps for the first time, alive… You can hardly believe that once upon a time you attempted life without it. Now it haunts you… and you would never have it any other way.

          ]]>

Some history.

Tango originated in lower-class districts of Buenos Aires and Montevideo. There life was cheap, short, glorious for an instant, ending abruptly, a legacy of sorrow, pain, regret, remorse. The word itself can be dated to the 1890s when it was applied to a fusion of music from the candombe ceremonies of former slave peoples mixed with European dances. It was always, right from the start, a combustible, volatile sound, with violence and mayhem lingering just below the surface, always ready to erupt.

Tango burst like a grenade upon the blase sophisticates of pre-World War I Europe; sheltered, pampered, rich they craved the unpredictability and eroticism of tango. It was liberating… dangerous… exciting. They couldn’t get enough.

In the middle of that great war (1916 or 1917, authorities differ), tango’s most famous music was born. It seemed oddly fitting. In a world now maddened by unimaginable destruction and early death, tango’s dancers craved release… and at the cafe “La Giralda” in Montevideo Gerardo Matos Rodriquez gave it to them (albeit anonymously).

The orchestra of Roberto Firpo was the first to present the composition, then without words, to a world which grabbed at it as if to a lifeline out of the inferno of the “war to end all wars”. People danced with abandon; their total focus on the dance, its steps, and the partner they held tight, eyes locked together… as if that night, that dance might be their last on earth. For many it was. Tango was the music of the doomed…

The lyrics.

The first lyrics to “La cumparsita” were written in 1924 by Argentine Pascual Contursi. There have been many other lyrics since but Contursi’s are the most apt. They signify a group of people that attends the carnival festivals dressed in a similar fashion (usually but not exclusively, wearing masks.)

Here are his words:

The masked parade of endless miseries promenades around that sick being that soon will die of sorrow.

That’s why in its bed cries mournfully remembering the past that makes it suffer.

These were words of death, of pain, of a haunted, fretful past and a future of despair, alienation, loneliness.

Immortality for sale, 20 pesos.

No history of tango and its most famous song would be complete without a few more words about Matos Rodriquez. He was just 18 when he wrote “La cumparsita”… young, educated, well mannered, naive. He sold his rights for the pittance of 20 pesos to the Breyer publishing house. It would hardly be a tango tale if he didn’t live to profoundly regret his rash, ill-considered act. Of course he did — deeply, bitterly, never endingly…. a legacy of draining, expensive law suits shadowed his life. At last a legal loophole gave him vindication, solace, and cash. The court ruled that as a minor he was unable to sell the rights. They were his again.

There were, in the best tradition of tango, other lawsuits, too. Who had the right to sing it? Who was entitled to the lyric royalties? It was all hashed out in court, in one hard-fought action after another.

In the end legendary tango composer and band leader Francisco Canaro (president of the Argentine Society of Authors and Composers) was asked to arbitrate. He ruled that tango lyricists Enrique Maroni and Pascual Contursi were entitled to royalties, too. They had given “La cumparsita” its first lyrics and a new name, too, “Si Supieras” — if you knew. It didn’t stick.

Through the endless series of charges, countercharges, claims, lies and law suits people worldwide danced tango… unconcerned about rights and wrongs. They had something more important on their minds. It was the compelling, entrancing, primitive, rough and graceful dance…

… the dance of one man and one woman.

The dance where total strangers, through the mad alchemy of tango, become intimate, enraptured, engrossed in each other, no one else in their world, and none wanted.

These two people, tormented by the intoxicating proximity, exist for each other only, body to body, eyes to eyes, walking rhythmically to a destination where anything might happen. They fear it. They want it. They tango.

Now it is time for you to tango, too, for you have waited far too long. It beckons. It knows you cannot resist, for you are but human… and tango is divine.

The problem with such post-apoc is that it can quickly become ill. When it does not bother to develop an atmosphere, a universe, a story, or a single player campaign, the interest is at a discount. So when we avoid focusing on all these points together, ouch.

What’s great about the games using Microsoft Live is that they are quite affordable. Basically, it is to emulate a X360 on his computer. Then, suddenly, I take this opportunity to connect the controller 360 and can play a fairly traditional in this FPS, without having to relearn matches of keystrokes. What’s wrong now is that they are sometimes only download games that are more of a stand-alone as the true amateur game gamer.

The post-apoc world, what is it? In most bad movies, and bad games, it comes down bad guys dressed in the 22nd century bum you yell running over to you with an iron bar, because the weapons are reserved for citizens. Some garbage piled in the corners, electro-industrial music at the Paul Oakenfold, some flashy neon lights and it’s done. With Blacklight: Tango Down, there is no risk of mistaking the goods. All the cliches of FPS Multi post-apoc met. Not mixed but crowded. It Braille without reason, the orders given in radio headphones are made with Microsoft Sam (the voice digitizer on Win 95, you see?), HUD or the grenades used to activate a strange shape that blurs the screen to futurist (“reality visor feature, which is intended futuristic and yet already exists in older SPF as the X-rays). But ultimately, it does nothing to freelance status. So, I tell you of multiplayer modes, which are many and probably interesting, but it’s been a month since I try to find people on the servers and I still have not managed to launch a single game because the minimum number was never reached …

          ]]>

So we’ll just talk about the solo, which is not more glorious than the rest. You can play coop with friends is pretty good. The goal is simple: we surveyed maps dark in search of heavily armed enemies or not. Regardless, however, because in general, by approaching them, they do not react. Flanked in the middle of a street as two blank rounds, discuss your attackers probably the last team to defeat France and did not even notice that you have one more step to finding your pif conk cons. So, it removes rust most often with rifle butts that pulling its cartridges. And once the enemy spawn area is raked, you are faced with a control box to open the door to the next area. To achieve your goals, small mini-games (eg, Simon, the musical game where you have to reproduce a series of sound) are done. Then, simply fill of life and ammunition caches of weapons scattered at the entrance levels. The weapons, in turn, have the advantage of being customizable. In other good points: the maps are still all designated nicely, although they almost all look alike in their architecture. The soundscape is made of weapons, like explosions. In bad points, if you do not have Microsoft Live account, you can not even play solo, so if it does, you would not even have read this test, sorry.

Blackligh is neither more nor less than an MMOFPS console that is worth its price: 15 €, we can not claim more than a place of some maps with strong action, with the cheap AI and a variety weapons that are sores. But no need to rely on history, summarized by the lower end of Cyberpunk: A futuristic city is infected with a virus, the wicked are to maintain order despite the zombies, just nice to clean up the cardboard cops and zombies. The maps solos are short and linear, multiple times maps. The only interest, virtually confessed to the editor remains the online mode. But, unfortunately, I expect that two people join me to finally start the game at 6.

No doubt the beautiful rumble online. But nothing interesting about the single player mode. For 15 € a download only, we say that is the bare minimum we could expect to have.

Examples of these dances are the tango, waltz, fox trot and quick step. It has an immensely amplified popularity spreading across Europe, the Americas and Asia. Ballroom dancing has had a relatively short but interesting history and has evolved from a recreational activity to a worldwide sporting event.

Ballroom dancing originated in England in the late 18th and early 19th centuries in which these dances, such as the waltz, were performed by the upper and elite classes of society in balls and parties. During the late 19th to the early 20th centuries, it became a trend among the working and middle class where they would go to gatherings and events in public dance halls. In the early 1920s, ballroom dancing competitions started to boom that in 1924, an organization was formed called the Ballroom Branch of the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing. The objective of this organization was to standardize and formalize ballroom dancing techniques, sets of steps and music to which it was danced to.

In legitimate Dance Sport competitions and in social events, there are five standard dances. These are the Modern and the Viennese Waltz, the Tango, the Slow Foxtrot and the Quickstep. These dances are standardized and categorized into segregated teaching levels and utilize vocabulary, rhythm and tempo and techniques which are accepted internationally.

          ]]>

Although these dances come from very different backgrounds and have special techniques, aesthetics, rhythms and tempos, they do share common qualities. All ballroom dances, as with all forms of dance, are expressions of feelings, thoughts and emotions. These dances may be stricter than other forms of dance and may limit the range of steps and body movement involved, but it is still one of the best expressions of love, joy and pain between two people.

Also, all ballroom dances are performed by only two people, usually a man and a woman. These dances are performed in a certain position termed as the “Closed Hold”. In this position, the couple strictly remains in contact in five different points or places. These five points consists of three hand contacts, one elbow contact and one chest contact.

The first hand contact occurs when the man’s left hand holds the lady’s right hand. Second is when the lady’s left hand is placed at the top of the man’s right upper arm. In the tango, the lady’s left hand is placed behind the man’s arm, not on top of it. The third contact is when the man’s right hand is placed under the left shoulder blade on the lady’s back. The fourth contact is when the lady’s left elbow rests on the man’s right elbow and both arms are kept in a horizontal line. The lady’s arms are held comfortably by the man’s and permit her to follow the man’s lead with ease. This also gives the couple the appearance of having a bearing of royalty. This is an important characteristic in the ballroom dances that came from Western Europe because these dances were performed in the royal courts. The last point of contact is where the right area of the chest of one touches the right area of his partner. This closeness allows very little room between the partners’ faces thus contributing to the dance’s romantic appeal.

As travel becomes more of a regular hobby,, many travellers are looking for new destinations and travel experiences to enjoy as the beaches of southern Spain, Hawaii and Florida start to become all too familiar and crowded.

One area that is attracting a lot of attention is the mainly Spanish speaking continent of South America, and in particular, Argentina.. Argentina’s largest city and capital, Buenos Aires, is one of the most modern cities in the region and is known to locals as the “Paris of South America”. Its architecture, history, culture and night life give it a distinctive edge over some of the nearby cities and towns.

Although the city boasts a vivid collection of sights and history, Buenos Aires is best known for being a city of fun. Whether you’re interested in music, classical dancing or sports, Argentina’s capital can provide it all.

Many people associate Argentina with its soccer team and from Alfredo di Stefano to Diego Maradona and Lionel Messi, the country has its fair share of soccer icons. The capital is soccer crazy and if you time your trip well you might be able to catch a game at one of the national stadiums – El Monumental – in Buenos Aires.

          ]]>

Soccer isn’t the only sport the Argentines enjoy. Rugby is fast catching up in popularity but for those looking for non-competitive exercise, the capital acts as a base for some of the best cycling routes, with trails leading to Bosques de Palermo and Alcorta.

Buenos Aires is not just a one-dimensional city, and as much as it loves soccer it also loves music. When night approaches, the capital lights up with bars and clubs preparing for an evening of parties. Music venues are available for lovers of every genre so jazz enthusiasts and hip hop aficionados can both rejoice. Parties often last until sunrise so make sure you take comfortable dancing shoes with you.

Dancing is a huge passion for South Americans and flights to Argentina are often bouncing with tourists eager to try out the traditional dances of the area, in particular the Argentine Tango. Many travellers say that going to Buenos Aires and not experiencing the tango is much like visiting Paris and not looking at the Eiffel Tower.

Tango classes are widely available – for beginners as well as those who fancy themselves as a dancer – but if you’re not the sort to enjoy partaking in dancing, be sure to get a slither of the experience by going to see a tango show. It may even be enough to inspire you to get your dancing shoes on.

These include drop-in classes, beginner-level crash courses and weekend courses, along with private tuition for individuals, couples and small groups.

Tango is a very intense dance between two individuals but unlike lots of traditional partner dances, the Argentine Tango is about really improvising with your dancing partner and the music. Dancers respond to the music and the mood they create with their partner and there are no set routines to follow. Learning the basic techniques of Tango creates a solid grounding in the dance and then students gain confidence to be able to improvise and move confidently around the dance floor.

The dance is therefore both fun and challenging to learn and master. There are studios that offer lessons in Argentine Tango in London with a variety of Tango lessons throughout London ranging from one to one tuition classes to beginners drop in classes, such as here at Tango Movement.

You may want a crash course in Tango in London where you can spend an entire weekend mastering the dances or just a fun weekly class to help you build up your confidence over time and learn the moves. Alternatively, Tango lessons can make a special experience for a couple who are looking for a memorable first dance for their wedding.

Tango is a romantic and sexy dance and learning to Tango can be a great experience for a couple in the run up to their wedding and also add the wow factor when they eventually take to the floor for the first time on their wedding day as husband and wife. A wedding dance can be designed to match your special song and moves will be tailored to reflect your ability. Tango lessons also make for a special and thoughtful gift whether it is a voucher for a loved one to take a private lesson or joining a group class to see if they want to pursue the classes.
